The 2011 show was in the village hall as usual and once again against the vagaries of the British summer the hall was full of colour, mostly down the show Champion Alan Robinson's flower exhibits, but there was little space left as the show exhibits numbered 515 breaking last year's record. Photography continues to grow with 79 entries with photos selected for the Village 2012 Calendar sponsored by the Village Post Office.
Wendy Dowse the Society's Chairperson said in her welcoming speech how grateful she was for all the helpers and volunteers who work very hard each year to stage the show, without them it simply won't happen. It's heartening to see that the entries were greater in number this year and we would like to see more children putting in entries and that will be assessing the children's classes for next year.'s show We were pleased to have new exhibitors in the adult classes and were delighted that many of them were successful.
The 70th Annual Show
2010 saw the Scawby Agricultural and Horticultural Society’ celebrate its 70th Annual Show in the village hall on Sunday 5 September. Despite a dry spring, wet summer and high winds, entries reached an all time record of over 480.
Chairperson, Wendy Dowse, thanked all the sponsors who had made the staging of the show possible and she was pleased to welcome many entries from people who were new to the village and hoped they would continue to support the show in the future. She thanked Roger Britt, a new member on the committee, for setting up the society’s website which has been a great success.
In Wendy's address we all remembered David & Millicent Hollingworth who have moved away from the area, Colin Bradley who is not well and was not able to submit entries into the show. We and the judges missed his superb gardening exhibits. We were also sad to note the death of Doreen Vaughan at the beginning of the year. Doreen had been a member of our organisation for many years, had served in various positions on the committee and was an enthusiastic supporter of the show. Sadly this past week Betty Brown died, her past involvement with the show had always been welcome and we were always grateful for her efforts behind the scene. President, Alan Robinson, presented the trophies to the prizewinners.
